Hyundai key types by generation
Hyundai has used different key systems across its model generations. The year and model of your Hyundai tells us which key type you need.
Not sure what key you have? Send a photo along with your model and year and we will identify it for you.
- Older Hyundais often use a basic transponder key, a metal key with a chip that matches the immobiliser.
- Many Hyundai i30 and Tucson models from the mid-era use a remote key or flip key, with the remote and transponder coded together.
- Newer Santa Fe and recent i30 generations use a smart key or proximity fob for keyless entry and push-button start.
- The newest Hyundai platforms can sometimes be dealer-only for key programming, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.
